How to Change the Look of Your Michele Watch

A new watch band can change the personality of a Michele watch more than you might expect. The same case can feel polished and jewelry-like on textured leather, cleaner and more modern on smooth leather, or noticeably more relaxed on a sport-inspired strap.

Silicone pushes in the opposite direction. On a compatible 18mm Michele watch, it creates a cleaner, more relaxed, sport-inspired look—useful when you want the watch to feel less jewelry-like and more casual.

Neither direction is inherently better. That's the point: the band can change how—and where—you wear the watch.

What Size Watch Band Does My Michele Need?

The correct replacement size is determined by lug width—the inside distance between the two attachment points where the strap meets the watch case.

Measure the watch itself rather than relying only on the model name, because band width can vary by model and generation. Current Michele watches commonly use 12mm, 14mm, 16mm and 18mm bands, while 20mm is also found on select earlier models.

Watch case size and watch band width are different measurements. A relatively large case can still use a narrow strap between the lugs.

How Do Michele Quick Release Watch Bands Work?

Many compatible Michele straps use quick release spring bars. A small tab on the underside of the strap compresses the spring bar, allowing the band to be removed without a traditional spring-bar tool.

Quick release describes the attachment mechanism, however—not universal compatibility. The strap still needs the correct lug width and must suit the attachment style of the specific watch.

Once the correct size and attachment style are confirmed, quick release makes it easy to switch between compatible bands without treating every strap change like a repair.

How to Change a Michele Watch Band

For a Michele watch that accepts a compatible quick release two-piece strap, changing the band is usually straightforward.

1. Turn the watch over so you can see the underside of the strap.
   
2. Locate the small quick release tab near the point where the band meets the watch case.
   
3. Slide the tab inward to compress the spring bar.
   
4. While holding the tab, gently move the strap away from the lugs and remove it.
   
5. To install the new band, place one end of the spring bar into the first lug.
   
6. Slide the quick release tab inward, position the opposite end of the spring bar between the lugs, and release the tab.
   
7. Gently pull on the strap to confirm that both ends of the spring bar are fully seated before wearing the watch.

On a traditional two-piece watch band, the shorter side with the buckle is normally installed at 12 o'clock, while the longer side is positioned at 6 o'clock.

Never force a strap or spring bar into place. If the band does not sit naturally between the lugs, check the size and attachment style before continuing.

What If the Replacement Band Doesn't Fit?

If a replacement band does not fit properly, start with the lug width.

A strap that is too wide will not sit naturally between the lugs, while one that is too narrow may leave visible space and can prevent the spring bar from seating correctly. Recheck the inside distance between the lugs and make sure it matches the stated width of the replacement band.

If the width is correct but the strap still will not install, check that the spring bar is positioned properly inside the strap and that both ends can engage securely with the lug holes.

It is also important to remember that matching the width alone does not guarantee compatibility. Some original Michele bracelets and bands may use model-specific end links or attachment systems rather than a standard two-piece strap.

If the band does not install easily and securely, do not force it. Confirm both the lug width and attachment style of your specific watch before proceeding.
